Avoiding Rosacea Flare-ups without Compromising Health

Many people who suffer from rosacea are aware that exercise and certain foods can trigger flare-ups.  For many people, fear of a rosacea flare-up is enough to keep them from engaging in activities or eating foods that can cause them to occur.  While this may prevent symptoms of rosacea, however, it is inherently unhealthy.  What follows are some tips for managing a healthy exercise and diet regimen while minimizing your risk of flare-ups.

When it comes to exercise, everyone knows that a good workout can prolong your life and better your health.  How do you balance that with exercise causing rosacea symptoms to worsen, however?  An excellent starting point is to exercise more often but for shorter periods of time.  This will help keep bouts of flushing to a minimum while allowing you to get your heart and lungs stimulated and pumping blood efficiently.

Another tip is to stay cool.  There are many ways you can do this.  When outdoors, put a damp towel on the back of your neck, drink cold fluids, and even spray yourself with cool mists of water as needed.  Exercise outdoors only in early morning and late evening during warmer months, as this is when the temperature is likely to be the lowest.  When you are indoors, exercising near an air conditioner or fan can prevent overheating and flushing.

When it comes to your diet, the best place to start is with a food diary.  While a number of foods are known to cause rosacea flare-ups, the same foods do not trigger flare-ups in everyone.  By keeping a diary of foods and their effects on you, you can learn which foods to avoid and what you can still enjoy to have a healthy, balanced, and delicious diet.

Your rosacea may be frustrating, but it does not have to rule your life.  It should certainly never be a reason for not improving your health.  If you have questions talk to a medical care professional, who may suggest treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light, but know that rosacea does not have to stand in the way of healthy diet and exercise.
