I was amused by the title that now dogs also need a cosmetic surgery. By reading few sub titles, I will add that,

The history of cosmetic surgery for animals trace back to ancient ages. Like cutting of ears to reduce their length, removing nails, removing unhealthy teeth and removal of excessive hair. :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with cosmetic surgery for pets... I have personally performed a breast enlargement on my pet mouse pinky, and a face lift on Tweetie Pie the budgie. With their new looks both Pinky and TP are much more confident and sociable and in fact after many weeks of singledom Tweetie has met a lovely Parrott called Perky and they are planning to get married in June and fly away into the sunset together.

I read the site & you have some of the biggest cry babies I've ever seen. When a person of the law do something, they say it's for the well being of the pet. Even when they don't really know that to be true. People everyday do things to cows, pigs, chickens, lobsters & etc. They just don't say anything about that form of cruelty. Due to we choose to eat those animals & house dogs & cats. Really you could make anything into a pet. As big as a horse, down to the size of an ant. It's up to that person to take care of that pet. Rather they should need shots, a new working eye, work on their teeth, a pair of undergarments removed from their abdomen, uninfected skin, ear repair, better equality in breathing, a relief in the amount of breast tissues load (unless you're a heavy chest woman, you wouldn't understand just how much of a relief), & really if you live in an apartment & every time you leave to go to work ; your beloved boxer trys to claw its way down to the floor below; you would understand how De-clawing him could very well save his life. Really now people some Cosmetic Surgeries are not just for "shits & giggles". Some people just take the title of the surgery out of hand & run with it. Some people may love their pet but have to much money & get way out of hand...Please remember when pointing fingers, that at least three point back at you.

Ok first of all I work in the veterinary industry.

I agree that tail docking, de clawing, ear cropping are all bad.

Breast reduction and eye replacement surgery Ive never heard of and the picture this site uses is actually taken from another page - its a spey procedure.

The face lift and nose jobs for dogs are only neccessary because breeders have deformed these dogs so much that some of them require the surgery to be able to function properly. Its not because people dont like the look

I also think if people are retarded enough to get fake nuts for their dogs let them. Atleast the dog wont be able to breed and these people can't have access to any more puppies and the dogs risk of cancer is greatly reduced :)

This is not just a russian thing its global

In castration, a dog looses his balls and the scrotum is left in tact which eventually shrinks to nothing. Seems to me it would be no more painful since healing from the surgery is already inevitable...to fill the scrotem with fake testicles regardless if it's for peace of mind for the human or the dog.

BTW, a human can have no way of really knowing if castration effects the psychi of an animals. It is well documented by animal behaviorist, that animals can smell, recognize and have different reactions to gelded animals.

If you have the money and the notion it's going to make your dog happier, I say let the poor pooch lick and enjoy 'em even if they aren't real.

Um, why pick on Russia? Do you have any empirical data that these things are more prevalent there? Oh, wait, I forgot, picking on Russia is a vintage chic trend left over from the Cold War

Of course people will think declawing is cruel if you show a picture like that. The procedure is done under general anesthesia, and incisions are made to facilitate access and make sure it's not barbaric, like that picture. They don't just hold the claw and chop it off like some kind of medieval torture method. Complications come from unskilled surgeons, not the procedure itself. Vastly more often than not, the worst thing about it for the cat is that the bandages annoy them.

I just can't imagine the unnamed pain these canines are suffering! At one end of the world, people include their meat as a staple diet and at the other end they are making them the next Paris Hilton or Michael Jackson. Kalki is on the way.... thats all i can say!

I'm not sure how this isn't considered to be a form of animal cruelty or to be inhumane. Procedures deemed to be "medically necessary" should be the ONLY procedures performed on animals. However, we can't blame Russia when in America we perform animal product testing which is just as sadistic.

Barbaric!! Torture!! How would they like it done to them!
Let them FEEL the pain it causes.
Let's cut off your fingers, ears, breasts and (tail?) butt.
Where are the animal rights organizations?
Why not spend their money doing good things for animals (helping out rescue organizations for example).

Tail docking, ear cropping and dew claw removal in certain breeds is NOT DONE for COSMETICS, breeds that require those procedures were HISTORICALLY done to help the breeds perform their FUNCTIONS SAFELY AND EFFICIENTLY. These procedures, when performed by veterinarians, are very safe and virtually pain free.

They were designed to improve the health and welfare of those breeds.
