How Plastic Surgery can Boost Your Confidence

Cosmetic surgery is becoming increasingly popular – with men and women of all ages now comfortable with the idea of having work done. In fact, a new study has highlighted just how attitudes have changed and some procedures are now proving particularly popular.

Research has shown plastic surgery battled through the recession, with demand for operations increasing by 6.7% this year. According to Mintel, the UK market for cosmetic surgery is estimated to have grown by 17% between 2008 and 2010, reaching a value of £2.3 billion. These statistics suggest going under the knife continues to become more and more attractive in society.

Every year, people up and down the UK decide to have cosmetic surgery, although this is often for different reasons. One might be to give them a confidence boost – perhaps after a divorce or break up – or it might be that they just want to feel better within themselves. Every day, we’re flooded with images of attractive, slim A-list stars, representative of a culture where cosmetic surgery is considered the norm. This celebrity lifestyle could be the reason an estimated 19 million adults in the UK say they would like to have some kind of plastic surgery done – to feel as fabulous as the stars in Hollywood often look.

For others, opting for surgery can be a result of having one specific part of their body that they are unhappy with. It’s not uncommon for kids to be teased at school for this type of thing. Big noses, small breasts, acne… the list goes on. For many, these hurtful comments can go away when their bodies mature and change. But for others, the damage to self esteem remains and they may continue to feel negative about their appearance. Cosmetic surgery offers these people the chance to look at their reflection and feel great. When you look in the mirror each day, a reflection of who you want to be should be what you see – and this confident new you is something plastic surgery can provide.

With over 40 different types of cosmetic surgery, surgeons are able to change just about anything about our bodies. The Mintel research showed that the most popular procedure to have is liposuction, which represents 18.8% of cosmetic operations. Here, fat is taken out of the body from underneath the skin. This is closely followed by breast augmentation, more commonly known as a boob job, which accounts for 17% of procedures. Other popular surgeries include eye lid surgery (13.5%), Rhinoplasty (more commonly known as a nose job) (9.4%) and tummy tucks. Boosting your confidence in life is not always easy, but plastic surgery can often provide a great way to make you feel happier on the inside, as well as the outside.
