Liposuction is a very popular but highly understood cosmetic procedure. While many think of it as an easy weight loss alternative, liposuction is actually a bit more complex and may serve as only a partial weight loss answer. While it can reshape and redefine the body, it is not a quick way to get thin without having to change your lifestyle. There are many misconceptions about liposuction, and here we will take a look at a few of them.

The Fat Will Come Back

Many people say that the fat comes back after liposuction. This is inherently untrue, as your body stops producing new fat cells after adolescence. Fat cells, however, can absorb larger amounts of fat if there is a need to store it. Because of this, fat left over in an area that has been treated can absorb more fat over time, causing the patient to regain weight. The solution is to maintain healthy diet and exercise after surgery and to avoid gaining excessive amounts of weight.

The Fat Goes Somewhere Else

Fat doesn’t simply move around after surgery. What can happen, however, is that your body will still need to store the excess fat you take in that can not be digested. With fat cells in one location gone, the body will store the fat in a new location. Again the solution is weight maintenance and a healthy exercise regimen.

Liposuction Fixes Cellulite

Cellulite is a band of fibers between the muscle and the skin. It is actually very tight tissue that, if removed, would cause a worsening of the dimpled appearance. While liposuction removes fatty tissue, it does not remove cellulite. If cellulite is your biggest concern, talk to your doctor about other options.

What Does It All Mean?

In short, the benefits of liposuction surgery are vast, not to mention the high success rate of the procedure. It is not, however, a miracle cure for obesity or an easy answer. The key to maintaining both health and beauty is a healthy lifestyle, and liposuction is designed to help create a more even body size in conjunction with a healthier lifestyle.

Cellulite- we all know what it is and can quickly recognize the unsightly dimpling as soon as it begins. Approximately 90% of women experience cellulite during their lives, and while many simply choose to tolerate it, a large number of women actively seek both surgical and non-invasive cellulite treatment.

Cellulite is not based on weight, but rather genetics, hormones, and age, and it is still largely a mystery to doctors and scientists. It affects women considerably more often than men, due to differences in the way fat is stored in the body. Where men have diagonal pockets, women store their fat in straight, long lines.

There are many treatments and supposed treatments for cellulite. Liposuction is still a widely popular cellulite treatment, as the procedure removes deposits of fatty tissue. While no procedure can permanently eliminate cellulite, liposuction can remove fatty deposits that push through collagen layers beneath the skin, greatly reducing the appearance of the hallmark dimples. Many healthy and even underweight people experience cellulite, however, and it is important to understand that the procedure is not a miracle cure.

Endermologie is a non-surgical procedure that works by applying gentle pressure to stimulate the breakdown of fat and cellulite. Many sessions are needed, and the procedure ultimately carries roughly the same cost as liposuction, but it is non-invasive and effective. Again, however, this cellulite treatment is not a permanent cure for cellulite, but can greatly reduce the effects. The treatment is FDA approved for cellulite reduction.

Subcision is a procedure that has been used for decades to alleviate scarring from acne, but is now being used to treat cellulite. The procedure works by using a specially designed needle to detach the bonds beneath the skin that cause cellulite. Because the procedure is still relatively new as a tool for reducing cellulite, the period of effectiveness is not yet known.

Tri-Active Laser Dermology is a very promising procedure that is FDA approved for cellulite reduction. This cellulite treatment uses a combination of suction, laser pulsation, and cooling to tighten skin, increase blood flow, and increase lymphatic drainage. It is remarkably effective and safe to use.

Of course, there are also many creams, oils, and lotions purported to relieve cellulite. Time and again these products are proven ineffective, yet millions of consumers still purchase them in hopes of an easy answer. With cellulite, there are many causes, few of which can be controlled. There is no perfect solution and there is no permanent cure, but the methods listed above, save for topical products, are by far the leading contenders in the treatment of cellulite.
