Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgical procedures available. Used mainly by women for a long period of time, the number of males having the procedure is growing rapidly. Liposuction can be a very effective way of removing fatty deposits from troublesome areas.

While it is important to note that liposuction is not a cure for obesity or to be used in place of diet and exercise, it provides many benefits. Whether you are a man who has a natural buildup of fatty tissues in certain areas of the body despite toning or have lost weight and now experience disproportionate amounts of body fat, liposuction can be helpful.

Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia, though some cases may be performed using local anesthesia and mild sedation. Male liposuction is performed using a procedure called tumescent liposuction, which uses a solution of anesthetic and epinephrine to aid in the removal of large amounts of fatty tissue. The tissue is removed using very fine tubes called cannulas that are inserted into small incisions and attached to suction pumps.

Many areas of the body are commonly treated during male liposuction, depending on the placement of fatty deposits. Commonly operated on areas include the face and neck, thighs, hips, calves, ankles, knees, arms, breasts, abdomen, and back. Before operating, your surgeon will conduct a thorough physical examination including blood work to ensure that you are a good candidate for the procedure.

After the procedure is completed, you will be required to wear a girdle for up to two weeks and will have to undergo courses of massage and ultrasound treatments. These procedures will help to reduce recovery time. Patients can return to work after only a few days, but must wait two weeks before beginning even a limited exercise regimen.

Side effects of liposuction include swelling, bruising, numbness and pain. Swelling may take up to three months to improve, and the full results may take up to a year to be visible. Doctors typically prescribe moderate to strong painkillers to alleviate postoperative pain. Complications of male liposuction are rare but can include blood clots, infections, and allergic reactions. Telling your doctor of any medications or supplements you take prior to surgery can help reduce this risk. As with all surgical procedures, it is imperative that you choose a licensed cosmetic surgery clinic with experience with the procedure to reduce risks of side effects and complications.

While many people think of cosmetic surgery as a group of procedures aimed at women, the truth is that more and more men are undergoing cosmetic procedures. One common procedure among men these days is the fat transplant. This procedure is designed to help eliminate wrinkles and add firmness to the lips, brow, cheeks, or chin.

A fat transplant works by removing fatty tissue from the buttocks, thighs, or other fatty areas of the body and injecting it into the area to be treated. Because this procedure uses your own natural body fat, it is not as quickly absorbed as injectable products such as collagen and Restalyne. Fat transplants last between six and twelve months, after which additional treatments are required to continue to see results.

The procedure itself is done using only local anesthesia. The fat is removed through a very small incision and is run through a centrifuge, enabling it to easily pass through a remarkably tiny needle and into the areas of skin to be treated. The recovery process is fast, and requires only that the patient massage the area several times throughout the course of the day. Patients are able to resume work and normal activity only three to four days after the procedure has been completed.

While most commonly used on the face, fat transplants can also be used on the calves, hands, triceps, and even the penis to add size and definition. Because the product comes from your own body, there is no chance of an allergic reaction. It also feels more natural than fillers and implants.

Yet another reason men undergo fat transplantation is to correct uneven fat distribution within the body. Weight loss can sometimes affect certain areas of the body while leaving others unchanged and create a sense of disproportion. Fat transplants can be used to even out fat placement within the body and restore a sense of symmetry.

In all, there are many reasons why men undergo fat transplantation. The process is remarkably safe and has few side effects. As with any procedure, complications are possible and include bleeding and infection, but these risks are small and can be greatly minimized by choosing a licensed surgeon who is experienced in performing the procedure. Fat transplants have many benefits, and whether you are looking to create definition, add size, or fight the signs of aging, it can be a remarkably successful procedure.

Gynecomastia is another term for enlargement of the breast tissue in males. The condition is caused when fatty tissues swell in the chest. It can occur on one or both sides of the chest and can be related to diet, testosterone levels, or a side effect of some medications.

While gynecomastia is benign, it can have a strong impact on self esteem. Many males are embarrassed by the condition. Drug induced gynecomastia can be reversed by cessation of the drug, but many cases of gynecomastia cannot be naturally reversed. For men in this situation, however, cosmetic surgery can be an option.

Gynecomastia can be treated in a number of ways, depending on the cause of the condition. When the condition is caused by obesity or weight, liposuction is the most common treatment. Much like in other liposuction surgeries, a pump or syringe is used to remove the fatty tissue from the area, reducing the appearance of the breasts.

True gynecomastia, when the cause is swelling of the actual breast tissue, is treated through excision. Breast tissue cannot be removed by suction, so an incision is made in the lower areola and the breast tissue is removed. Because the areola is pigmented and the incision is made around the area, scarring is usually minimal and hard to detect.

It is also possible for a patient to exhibit swelling of both the fatty tissue and the breast tissue concurrently. When this occurs, the resulting gynecomastia is treated through a combination of both liposuction and incision. This combination of treatments allows for better sculpting of the chest and a more natural appearance.

It is important to note that larger incisions may have to be made in cases where the tissue is larger. Incisions around the areola are typically used in cases where the breast tissue is relatively small, comparable to a female A or B cup size, but flap incisions may be necessary in larger breasts. The incisions that will be needed to perform a successful gynecomastia surgery will be determined by your surgeon.

If you suffer from gynecomastia and feel that it has a significant impact on your self esteem, it is recommended that you speak first with a doctor to ensure that there is no medical reason for the condition. If this is the case, it can be worthwhile to talk with a cosmetic surgeon about gynecomastia treatments. With the right surgery, embarrassing swelling can be eliminated, eliminating self esteem problems related to gynecomastia.
